Take a stunning walk on the Salkantay Inca trail to the mysterious hidden city, and new world wonder that is Machu Picchu. You’ll experience humming rainforest, snowy mountain passes, and cascading waterfalls, and reach 4600 metres, and cross rope bridges to the lost city.

Salkantay Trek Itinerary

Day 1 - Cusco

Arrive in Cusco. Transfer from the airport to your hotel. Get some food, before a decent rest. It’s 3400m above sea level here and you will feel the altitude, but you’ll soon acclimatise.

Day 2  - Cusco

As you adjust to the elevaton, you’ll take a day to explore the city. The local markets, the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuamán, or just sip coca tea in a café. We’ll come together for dinner for a full briefing of the adventure starting tomorrow.

Day 3 - Humantay Lake

Early breakfast then a coach to the start of the walk. Up into the hills to the camp at Soraypampa, and lunch. Then walk up to the beautiful Humantay Lake at 4200m. Return walk for dinner and night under the stars.

Day 4 - Apacheta pass, Salkantay Mountain and Chaullay

After breakfast you ascend to Apacheta pass - 4600m. Incredible views of the Salkantay Mountain, its snowy peak at 6200m. You’ll walk on for lunch ready in the group dining tent. 

After lunch descend through the beautiful rainforest, in the mountain valley, to the campsite at Chaullay. Dinner and relax..

Day 5 - Lucmambamba

Descend further into the Amazon rainforest valley, across bridges and past waterfalls to Lucmabamba, the next camp. You can visit a local coffee plantation, or hot springs and plunge in the cold pools.

Day 6 - Llactapata and Aguas Calientes

Ascend the valley side on paved Inca trails to Llactapata. Gain some height again, but your treat after lunch is a sweeping view across the valley of Machu Picchu itself.

In the afternoon you’ll descend again to the Urubamba river. You can walk, or take a short train to the hotel in Aguas Calientes. Dinner in a great local restaurant.

Day 7 - Machu Picchu and Huayna PIcchu

An early start, and a bus to Machu Picchu. An expert guide takes you on a specially chosen tour, with the option to climb Huayna Picchu mountain. Places are limited, so this is a real treat.

Return to Aguas Calientes for lunch and time to relax, before the train to Ollantaytambo, and the bus to Cusco, the hotel, and a final celebratory meal. 

Day 8 - Cusco and Onward Travel

After your final breakfast you’ll have a transfer to the airport, and say a fond farewell to Cusco.
